Software Development Engineer II, AWS Emerging Planning Solutions

Are you passionate about building software that impacts millions of customers? We're looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join our team at Amazon. In this role, you will design, build, and deliver features across the full software development lifecycle—from understanding customer needs through implementation, testing, deployment, and operations. You'll work on challenging problems that require clear thinking and simple, effective solutions, while collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to ensure the right outcomes for customers. If you're a self-starter who thrives on solving complex problems and mentoring others, we'd love to hear from you. Key job responsibilities - Design and implement software solutions that improve quality, performance, and maintainability across major portions of your team's systems, balancing both customer and technical requirements. - Contribute across the full software development lifecycle including product definition, scoping, design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing operations, while identifying and resolving root causes of operational issues. - Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and peers to understand business and customer value, ensuring your solutions address real needs and deliver meaningful impact. - Mentor and coach fellow engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing, training new team members on system architecture and operational practices. - Evaluate new tools, approaches, and generative AI capabilities to augment productivity and solution quality, making recommendations for adoption with your team. A day in the life You'll start your day reviewing operational metrics and addressing any issues from the previous night. From there, you might dive into a design discussion for an upcoming feature, pair with a teammate on a tricky implementation, or lead a code review session. Afternoons often involve collaborating with product managers to refine requirements or documenting your system's architecture for the broader team. You'll regularly identify opportunities to simplify and improve the software you work on.
